American entrepreneur Elon Musk has decided to transfer partial control of Starlink systems to the US military. This was reported by Musk's biographer Walter Isaacson in an interview with The Washington Post.
According to Isaacson, after the situation when Starlink was cut off in Crimea due to the Ukrainian attack against the Russian Black Sea Fleet, Musk began to worry about the possibility of nuclear war.
"I was talking to him during all this, and one late night he said: Why am I involved in this war? He said: I, you know, created Starlink so people could relax, watch Netflix movies and play video games. I didn't want to create something that could cause a nuclear war," Isaacson said.
The biographer also clarified that he had asked Musk whether he had discussed his concerns with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley.
"And he did. He talked to them and said: 'If they tell me to do something, I would do it if I'm told to do it,'" Isaacson added.
After that, Musk decided to give the US military partial control over certain Starlink equipment and services and ceased to control the geo-zones of the system's use.
"He no longer controls the terms of use," the biographer summarized.
