The ruling Georgian Dream party accused McDonald's fast food restaurant chain of LGBT propaganda.
Before that, the pro-government TV channel "Imedi" reported that a book was found in the children's Happy Meal set, which tells about the British musician Elton John. There, in particular, his marriage to David Furnish and their children are mentioned, reports the "News-Georgia" agency.
"The task of the enemies of Georgia, the participants in the conspiracy against Georgia today is to create new and new centers of resistance. It's a pity if McDonald's is included in this struggle," said the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Gia Volskyi.
He added that he had already addressed this issue to the founder of McDonald's Georgia, the owner of the Coca-Cola plant, Temur Chkonia.
The mass media remind that earlier "Mriya" accused McDonald's of purposeful disinformation after the restaurant posted banners with the inscription "today in Georgia more than 235 thousand families with children live in poverty." The banners were removed after the scandal.
Recently, the topic of LGBT propaganda has been increasingly mentioned in the statements of Georgian officials. The Prime Minister of Georgia, Iraklii Garibashvili, in particular, declares that he "will not allow the violence of the minority against the majority" and that "LGBT propaganda among children, in schools, in kindergartens" is unacceptable.
The leaders of the ruling party also talk about the "lost orientation" of the protesting youth, which needs to be "brought back into the framework".
Analysts believe that the latest statements of the leaders of the ruling party clearly show an attempt to attract the conservative part of society to their side due to the sensitive LGBT topic, and the opponents of the government appear as traitors to faith and traditions.
It should also be noted that this year the week of "Tbilisi Pride" will be held in the capital of Georgia from July 1 to 8 in a closed format due to threats from homophobic groups.
