EU High Representative Josep Borrell hopes that the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine will begin in the near future.
He stated this before the start of the meeting of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers in Brussels.
Borrell welcomed the decision to transfer modern fighter jets to Ukraine, adding that the country's Defense Forces need them.
"Pilot training has already begun, and I hope that soon we will be able to provide Ukraine with this weapon (F-16. - Ed.)," he emphasized.
At the same time, no confirmation of data regarding the start of training was received from the European countries that were supposed to train Ukrainian pilots on the F-16.
Last week, Great Britain announced the launch of an international coalition of countries aimed at training Ukrainian pilots on fourth-generation fighters, including the F-16. It already includes Great Britain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, the United States and Portugal.
