The Appellate Chamber of the Higher Anti-Corruption Court upheld the preventive measure against the mayor of Odesa, Gennady Trukhanov, in the form of detention with the possibility of bail in the amount of 13 million hryvnias.
"The panel of judges decided to dismiss the appeal, the decision of the HACC judges from May 4 remains unchanged," the judge said.
The prosecutor's office asked to increase Trukhanov's bail to about UAH 51 million.
On April 25, HACC changed Trukhanov's preventive measure in this case instead of a personal commitment to bail in the amount of 30,866,000 hryvnias. Trukhanov had to pay the money within 5 days.
On May 4, VAKS sent the mayor of Odesa into custody with the possibility of making a bail of 13 million UAH.
Oleksandr Lysak, the lawyer of the detained mayor of Odesa, Gennady Trukhanov, filed an appeal.
On May 5, more than 13 million hryvnias were deposited for Trukhanov.
The investigation believes that in the period from July to December 2016, together with other officials of the city hall and a private company, Trukhanov took possession of the funds of the local budget of Odesa in the amount of UAH 185 million under the guise of purchasing the building of the bankrupt Krayan plant at a deliberately inflated cost.
On June 1, 2018, the anti-corruption authorities completed the investigation in this case. In July 2019, the Maliniv District Court of Odesa found Trukhanov and other officials innocent of the embezzlement of UAH 92 million.
Later, the HACC appeal overturned the acquittal, and the case has now been referred to the Supreme Court of Appeals.
