The largest solar power plant in Europe, built with the support of the British government and worth $1 billion, will open in the Turkish province of Konya on May 5. It is expected to meet 1% of Turkey's electricity consumption needs for a year, writes Turkish Anadolu.

 The Karapinar Solar Power Plant (SPP), which is scheduled to open on May 5 in Konya province, with a capacity of 1,350 MW, belongs to the Kalyon Energy company. According to the press service of the company, SES "Karapinar" covers an area of 20 million square meters. meters

 Installation work at the site of the solar power plant started in January 2020. With the full power of the Karapinar SPP, it will increase the share of the installed capacity of solar energy in Turkey by 20 percent.

 The solar power plant consists of 3,256,038 solar panels manufactured at Kalyon Fotovoltaik.

 Active financial support of the project was provided by the British government. The total cost of the SES project is estimated at $1 billion. A significant part of this amount was allocated by the British export credit agency UKEF.

 The solar power plant will produce 3 billion kW of electricity annually, which corresponds to 1 percent of Turkey's electricity consumption. At the expense of the new SES, the electricity needs of about 2 million people will be met. In addition, the power plant will prevent the release of 2 million tons of harmful substances into the environment.
