Germany handed over a batch of Piranha armored personnel carriers to the army of Moldova

On Tuesday, April 25, a batch of Piranha armored personnel carriers arrived in Moldova, which Germany promised to hand over to the country.

This was announced by the Ministry of Defense of Moldova.

"This is part of a batch of 19 military vehicles donated by the government of the Federal Republic of Germany earlier this year," the statement said.

It is noted that the first units arrived in Moldova on January 10, 2023.

"Others should join the National Army of Moldova within a year," added the Ministry of Defense.

The family of multi-purpose wheeled armored vehicles was developed by the Swiss company Mowag, which has been owned by General Dynamics since 2010.

MOWAG Piranha armored vehicles are in service with the armies of more than 20 countries and are produced under license by a number of foreign companies. The total number of Piranha machines produced and included in the order list is more than 10,700 units.

We will remind that the European Union will deploy a civilian mission in Moldova to strengthen security against hybrid threats, in particular from Russia.

In Moldova, near Chisinau, they plan to build a modern military base for the training of personnel of the national army. Its construction may take from three to five years.
