The USA and Estonia detained an Estonian Russian: he helped Russia buy electronics

Thanks to the cooperation of the FBI and the Internal Security Service of Estonia, a Russian - a citizen of Estonia, who for years helped Russia to obtain important American-made electronics, was detained in the country.

This is stated in the statement of the US Ministry of Justice.

It is about Estonian citizen Andriy Shevlyakov. In the United States, 18 charges were brought against him for his role in supplying Russia with electronics from the United States, in particular, for the needs of government structures and the army.

Shevlyakov was detained on March 28 on the territory of Estonia. At the same time, new supplies intended for his cover companies were seized. One of the deliveries contained 130 kg of radio equipment.

The investigation believes that Shevlyakov helped Russia obtain the necessary high-tech components for more than ten years, bypassing US export controls. Most such orders would be impossible directly from Russia. Such components are used for radio equipment, avionics, missiles and EW systems.

Shevlyakov also tried to get the Metasploit software, which was invented to assess the vulnerability of computer networks, but it is also used by hackers.

Shevlyakov smuggled the supplies received from the USA across the Russian border, or himself with the involvement of other persons.

Since the Russian himself has long been on the list of persons to whom the US has banned exports from the country without a special license, Shevlyakov created a number of front companies.

If all charges are proven, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
