In Ukraine, for the first time, a sentence was passed for the deportation of the civilian population from Crimea

The "judge", who is involved in the deportation of a Crimean man from the territory of the occupied peninsula, was sentenced in absentia to 10 years of imprisonment. She was found guilty of violating the laws and customs of war.

This is reported by the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

It is reported that the so-called "judge" after the occupation of Crimea transferred to the service of illegally created judicial bodies and took the leadership position of "Chairman of the Armenian City Court of the Republic of Crimea." The woman took a direct part in the implementation of Russia's criminal policy aimed at changing the demographic composition of the population in Crimea.

It is noted that the "judge" reliably knew that since 2014 the residents of Crimea have the status of persons under the protection of international humanitarian law. Despite this, she made a decision to expel the Crimean from the territory of the peninsula.

The prosecutor's office explains that the illegal decision was motivated by the alleged lack of permit documents and non-observance of the "rules of staying on the territory of the Russian Federation." However, no additional permits of the occupation administration for the residence of Ukrainians in Crimea are provided by the national legislation.

Yes, this is a serious violation of the requirements of Art. 49 of the Convention on the Protection of Civilian Population of 1949, which prohibits, regardless of the motives, to carry out forced individual or mass resettlement or deportation of persons from the occupied territory.

"This is the first sentence in Ukraine for the deportation of the civilian population from the occupied peninsula. It is a kind of precedent in the national legal system. We see how the consistent and persistent work of the autonomy's law enforcement agencies destroys the myth of the "impunity of the occupying power in Crimea," said the head of the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol Igor Ponochevny.

It is reported that three more indictments on similar crimes are currently being considered by the courts. Three reports with evidence of the mass expulsion of Ukrainians from the temporarily occupied Crimea, the forcible transfer of residents to the mainland of Ukraine, and the deportation of Crimean prisoners to places of deprivation of liberty in Russia were sent to the Hague Court.
