Saakashvili came to Georgia to prepare the ground for war - the prime minister

Prime Minister of Georgia Iraklii Garibashvili is sure that ex-president of the country Mykhailo Saakashvili has returned to his homeland to prepare the ground for war and the opening of a "second front" against Russia.

Saakashvili returned to Georgia at the end of September 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched an invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

"According to his (Saakashvili - ed.) naive calculations, there was supposed to be a revolution, bloodshed, overthrow of the government by violent means, disruption of elections. This period exactly coincides with the period when the talks had already started, and we had information from our partners that the war in Ukraine was supposed to start in November or December (2021 - ed.), which was postponed for several months because of call communications between Russia and the West. I did not accidentally mention this period, it coincides with the arrival of Saakashvili, with the intention of overthrowing the government, organizing a coup and a revolution. If we connect this with the goal declared by the Ukrainian government a few months later, their actions, it becomes clear that their task was to open a second front in Georgia. I think no reasonable person will have doubts and questions that the purpose of Saakashvili's visit was to prepare the ground for the start of the war in Georgia. Of course, this plan failed, the internal and external enemies of our country lost," said Garibashvili, speaking in the parliament.

Garibashvili also recalled the recent statement of former prime minister and ex-Minister of Internal Affairs Vano Merabishvili, whom he called the informal leader of the opposition "United National Movement". According to Garibashvili, in an interview with one of the Ukrainian channels, the former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that their goal is to overthrow the government, and then start a war against Russia.

"These are the words spoken by Merabishvili in public. This is evidence, and I am only reminding you of the facts," said Garibashvili.

At the same time, Merabishvili previously accused the representatives of the ruling party of spreading lies. In particular, he stated that he did not talk about plans to fight against Russia.
