In Romania, a senator proposes to annex part of Ukraine - the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded with sanctions

The pro-Russian senator of Romania, Diana Shoshoake, proposed to annex part of the territories of Ukraine. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine initiates sanctions against her.

This was reported by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oleg Nikolenko on Facebook.

Diana Shoshoake submitted a draft law proposing to cancel the agreement on good neighborliness and cooperation between Romania and Ukraine. The senator calls for "joining the historical territories". We are talking about Northern Bukovina, Hertsa, Bujak (Kagul, Bolgrad, Izmail), historical Maramures and Snake Island.

She stated that Romania "must restore the cultural identity, traditions, customs and religion of the population." At the same time, she asks to "take into account" Bucharest's assistance to Ukraine in the war and "give up territory".

Later, the senator tried to justify herself, saying that her initiative had nothing to do with the war, and the goal was to "avoid the forced ethnic assimilation of Romanians in Ukraine."

 Reaction of Ukraine

The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oleh Nikolenko, called Shoshoake's actions "a classic example from the Russian revanchism methodology."

"We strongly condemn the attempt to question the territorial integrity of Ukraine, to undermine the spirit of good neighborliness between Ukraine and Romania," he said.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs initiates sanctions against the pro-Russian senator for threatening the national security of Ukraine.

It will be recalled that the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry recently stated that Budapest will not support Ukraine's move towards NATO and the European Union due to alleged non-compliance with the rights of Transcarpathian Hungarians.
