The current president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was elected as a candidate for the post of head of state at a meeting of the parliamentary group of the Justice and Development Party (AKP).
This is reported by Ukrinform with reference to TRT Haber.
"The decision regarding the candidacy of our President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was made unanimously. The decision will be sent to the Higher Election Commission next week," said Ismet Yilmaz, head of the AKP party group.
It should be noted that the elections in Turkey will be held on May 14. Six opposition parties decided on a candidate on March 7, and he became 74-year-old Kemal Kilicdaroglu, who heads the Republican People's Party.
