Supporters of Ukraine circulated a draft resolution for adoption by the 193-member UN General Assembly on the eve of the first anniversary of Russia's invasion. The resolution will emphasize the need for peace that ensures "the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine."

This is reported by the Associated Press.

The project is entitled "Principles underlying a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine".

As AP notes, the proposed resolution is broader and less detailed than the 10-point peace plan that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyі announced at the November summit of the Group of 20 largest economies. This was a deliberate decision by Ukraine and its supporters to try to garner maximum support when the resolution is put to a vote, UN diplomats said on condition of anonymity.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Emine Japarova said in January that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyі wants to personally visit the UN and speak at the General Assembly on the eve of the anniversary of the Russian invasion. However, later the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oleh Nikolenko, said that the decision on the trip had not yet been made.

As AP notes, diplomats have said that the expectation of another major Russian offensive could keep Zelenskyі at home.
