Head of the Embassy of Ukraine: possible evacuation of Ukrainians from Georgia if there is a threat due to the influx of Russians

The Embassy of Ukraine in Georgia does not rule out the possibility of evacuating Ukrainian citizens if they are in danger after the resumption of direct air traffic between Georgia and the Russian Federation and the mass influx of Russians.

This was stated by Andrii Kasyanov, the temporary charge d'affaires of Ukraine in Georgia, in an interview with "Evropeyska Pravda".

"In the event of the restoration of direct air traffic and the increase of real security risks, I want to say that today the embassy does not exclude the possibility of turning to international organizations, to our international partners in order to consider the possibility of providing assistance in the mass evacuation of Ukrainian citizens from the territory of Georgia." , - said Kasyanov.

"But I emphasize: if there are real threats to their lives and safety. We will not sit idly by. We will work and provide everything that depends on us to ensure their protection and safety. This is our main priority," the diplomat added.

Kasyanov noted that against the background of a significant increase in the threat to a safe stay in Georgia due to the abnormal influx of Russians, the embassy is doing everything possible to facilitate the return of our citizens to Ukraine.

"Now we are discussing the possibility of organizing special evacuation routes specifically for those, the most vulnerable sections of the population of Ukraine, who really do not have the means to return. At the same time, we consider land transport as the most optimal," he added.

As you know, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov, at a press conference on January 18, expressed hope that direct flights between Russia and Georgia will soon be restored.

The leader of "Georgian Dream" Iraklii Kobakhidze spoke favorably about this idea "for the benefit of Georgians living in Russia."

At the same time, the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, spoke against the resumption of direct flights with Russia.

The opposition stated that the authorities are playing on Russia's side and are doing everything to prevent Georgia from acquiring candidate status for joining the EU.
