The ministers of foreign affairs of the countries of the European Union will today discuss the military support of Ukraine, in particular the issue of tanks. This was stated by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell before a press conference in Brussels on January 23.
"We will study how to further support Ukraine militarily. We will discuss a new tranche of the European Peace Fund (EPF) to provide more funding to Ukraine, and we will also discuss the level of military support after the meeting in Ramstein, which, by the way, caused many commitments," - Borrell noted.
The head of EU diplomacy emphasized that "there was a very good result at Ramstein in terms of the number of weapons" that the member states decided to provide to Ukraine.
Regarding the tanks and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi's request for them, Borrell clarified: "President Zelenskyi asked for it, different member states have different opinions, we will discuss it today."
Before the preliminary meeting of the heads of the defense departments - "Ramstein-8" - Ukraine turned to the allies with a request for modern Western tanks. There were no announcements about their provision.
