Britain said on Tuesday it was ready to lead NATO's multinational Joint Task Force (VJTF) in 2024, denying press reports that Germany's defense ministry was ready to consider extending its chairmanship beyond 2023.
This was reported by the Reuters agency.
"Great Britain is ready to fulfill its commitment to lead NATO's Joint Operational Tactical Force of the highest level of readiness in 2024 - any assumptions to the contrary are completely untrue," - said a representative of the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain.
"NATO is currently reviewing its military plans and force model, which may affect their requests to Allies," the representative added.
Earlier on Tuesday, Table.Media, citing German military sources, reported that Great Britain will take over the leadership of NATO in 2024, several months later than planned.
"I cannot tell you anything official about this right now," a representative of the German Ministry of Defense told the agency.
The VJTF was created in 2014 on the basis of the enhanced NATO Response Force following the illegal annexation of Crimea by Russia and the crises in the Middle East.
Germany took over the leadership of the force after France, who led it in 2022.
The VJTF is the highest readiness element of NATO's response forces. The leadership and membership of the VJTF is rotated annually among the members of the Alliance.
