The Orthodox Church of Lithuania condemns the war in Ukraine, which was unleashed by Russia, and wants to separate from the Moscow Patriarchate.
This was announced by the LPC.
The Lithuanian Orthodox Church held a general assembly on Tuesday, December 27. During the meeting, the clergy condemned the war against Ukraine at all levels, and also expressed the anti-war position of their superior - Metropolitan Innokenty of Vilnius and Lithuania.
In addition, the LOC stated that they intend to accelerate the process of separation from the Moscow Patriarchate and gain greater independence from the Russian Orthodox Church.
At the same time, the statement states that the connection with the Moscow Patriarchate "is exclusively canonical and in no way hinders church independence."
Earlier, Metropolitan Innokenty appealed to the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church with a request to grant the Lithuanian Orthodox Archdiocese the status of a self-governing church.
