Attempted coup in Germany: Suspects planned to create 280 groups for arrests and executions

Suspects in the coup attempt in Germany planned to create 280 armed units throughout the country.

The Bundestag held three special committee meetings on Monday to discuss an investigation into a conspiracy by extremists linked to the far-right "Reichsburger" movement.

The Judiciary Committee and the Home Affairs Committee held meetings where Chancellor Olaf Scholz's government and federal prosecutors provided "reports and results" of the raids and provided additional information about the operations.

At the third session, lawmakers raised the issue of the parliamentary control committee, which is responsible for Germany's internal and external intelligence services.

Prosecutors said the suspects planned to set up 280 armed units across Germany tasked with "arresting and punishing" people after the coup.
