The progressive alliance of socialists and democrats of the European Parliament on Monday decided to exclude from its composition the vice-president of the body, Eva Kaili, who appears in a corruption scandal about illegal lobbying.
This is reported by "European Truth".
"We are outraged by the allegations of corruption in the European Parliament. The group of Socialists and Democrats has zero tolerance for corruption. We stand for a thorough investigation and full disclosure of information. We will fully cooperate with all investigative bodies," the group said in a statement.
In addition to being expelled from its membership, the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats is also calling for Kylie to be fired as vice-president of the European Parliament during a plenary session this week.
In addition, the MEPs propose to hold a debate on "suspicion of corruption by the Persian Gulf countries", as well as to create a committee of the European Parliament to investigate foreign interference in EU institutions with the aim of influencing decision-making.
Previously, the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats - the second largest political group in the European Parliament - suspended Eva Kylie's membership.
It will be recalled that searches and arrests were carried out in Brussels and its surroundings on December 9 as part of an investigation into the activities of a "criminal organization, corruption and money laundering". In particular, law enforcement officers seized approximately 600,000 euros in cash, mobile phones and computer equipment.
Later it became known that as part of the investigation, one of the vice-presidents of the European Parliament, Eva Kylie, and a former MEP from Italy, Pier Antonio Panzeri, were arrested. On Sunday, four people involved in the case, including Kylie and Panzeri, were taken into custody. In addition, Kylie's assets were frozen by Greece, her home country.
Also, as part of the anti-corruption operation of the federal prosecutor's office, a search was made at the house of the member of the European Parliament from Belgium, Mark Tarabelli, who has publicly supported Qatar in recent months.
