More than a dozen influential US conservative groups have appealed to leaders of both parties in the House of Representatives to hold off on aid to Ukraine until a new Congress is sworn in in January.

In a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Democrat, and Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, the conservative groups urged House leaders "to take their time to pass another big aid package for Ukraine during the lame duck session." months and no longer have a chance to be re-elected).

"Any new aid package for Ukraine must be thoroughly discussed, studied and voted on in the 118th session of Congress," says the letter, signed by such influential conservative groups as Americans for Prosperity, Heritage Foundation, FreedomWorks, Conservative Partnership Institute, Ame Policy Institute and others.

The letter refers to a specific potential aid package for Ukraine in the amount of 50 billion dollars, the adoption of which was announced by representatives of both parties of Congress. It should become a safeguard in the event that the mid-term elections to the US legislature were won primarily by supporters of reducing support for Kyiv.

At the same time, the letter also talks about the broader context of such support: they say that providing more aid to Ukraine "ignores the financial constraints that this country faces", the US's NATO allies are not contributing their fair share, and the Biden administration has not set clear enough end goals war in Ukraine

"We understand the desire to help the people of Ukraine. They are victims of a brutal and immoral Russian invasion. However, we should not deny the responsibility of the United States Congress to put American interests first in the formation of US foreign policy," the conservative groups claim.

Previously, the leader of the Republican minority in the US House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, said that Ukraine should not count on an "unlimited check" in the event that his party regains control of the lower house of Congress.

"I very much support Ukraine. I think that in the future we need an accountability mechanism... It is always necessary not just to give carte blanche, but to make sure that the resources go where they are needed. And also to ensure that the Congress and, in particular, the Senate, have the opportunity to openly discuss this," - He spoke in an interview with CNN.
