About a hundred German soldiers arrived in Lithuania to strengthen NATO's eastern flank

About a hundred German soldiers arrived in Lithuania on Sunday as part of the expansion of the military presence on NATO's eastern flank.

This was announced by the German Bundeswehr on Twitter.

About a hundred soldiers of the 41st tank-grenadier brigade and military equipment arrived in Klaipeda by ferry from Kiel.

An advanced command post should be created there for joint training and coordination exercises with the Lithuanian armed forces.

Since 2017, an international NATO battalion led by Germany has been stationed in Lithuania, but in June the Alliance countries agreed to develop it to the level of a brigade. Thus, the number of allied soldiers in Lithuania will increase several times.

For the most part, the brigades will be stationed in Germany at least for the time being. Lithuanian officials explain such decisions by the lack of infrastructure for receiving and training allied soldiers and promise to develop it.
