From September 1, Polish fighter jets will begin performing tasks in the airspace of Slovakia to increase the common security of the allies.
This is reported by PAP.
"According to the decision of President Andrzej Duda, from September 1, Polish fighter jets will begin to perform tasks in the airspace of Slovakia. The purpose of this mission is to strengthen our ally against the background of the security crisis caused by the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine," said the head of the National Security Bureau of Poland, Pawlo Solokh.
The presidential decree provides that from September 1, a pair of F16 or MiG29 will be involved in the duty.
Before that, on Saturday, the defense departments of Poland and Slovakia signed a declaration on cooperation in the protection of Slovakia's airspace.
It is believed that this agreement paves the way for the transfer of Slovak MiG-29s to Ukraine, and Slovakia will receive Western fighters instead.
