The Czech Republic began its six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union and will lead it until December 31.

The slogan of the presidency is "Europe as a task: to rethink, rebuild, regain strength," and the key tasks are named strengthening of common freedom, responsibility, security and prosperity.

The Czech Republic has identified as priorities:

- issues related to the reception of Ukrainians fleeing the war and the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine;

- energy security;

- strengthening the defense capabilities of European countries and security in cyberspace;

- strengthening the strategic sustainability of EU economies;

- strengthening the sustainability of democratic institutions.

"There are many problems and challenges facing Europe right now, but if we act united and determined - we will emerge from these crises stronger and more resilient," said Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala.

Before the Czech Republic, France chaired the EU Council.

Let us recall that the EU Council is one of the key bodies of the European Union. The Council is involved in the development of legislation, coordination of policies of member states and participates in the decision-making chain at EU level.

The presidency of the Council of the EU is rotated from country to country every six months. The presidency organizes and presides over the meetings of the body and represents the Council of the EU in its relations with other EU bodies.
