The European Union has developed a plan of gas substitution from Russia in order to get rid of energy dependence.
This was stated by the European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton, says DW.
According to the Commissioner, the EU imports from Russia 155 billion cubic meters a year.
Under the new strategy Brussels plans to receive 50 billion cubic meters by import of liquefied natural gas from the USA or Qatar, 10 billion cubic meters by existing pipelines, and another 25 billion cubic meters by accelerated start of offshore wind turbines and solar panels.
The European Commissioner stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin is using "gas to divide us, and for years has done everything to divide Europe."
"He tried to divide us with his Sputnik vaccine, but it did not work. He has done everything to interfere in our democracies with Russia Today, and now he is using gas to divide us," Breton said.
