"Gazprom" has confirmed the termination of gas supplies to the Netherlands due to the refusal to pay in rubles.
The Russian company confirmed this on Tuesday, Interfax reported.
"Gazprom has completely stopped gas supplies to GasTerra B.V. (Netherlands) due to non-payment in rubles. As of the end of business on May 30, Gazprom Export had not received payment for gas supplies in April from GasTerra B.V. in accordance with Russian presidential decree No. 172 of March 31, 2022. Payments for gas supplies from April 1 must be made in rubles using new details and the counterparties were informed about it in time," Gazprom said.
GasTerra explained that they refuse the Russian demand for payment because it would mean a violation of the EU sanctions against Russia.
The company's current contract with Gazprom expires on October 1 and has no plans to extend it.
Energy and Climate Minister Rob Yetten said he understood the company's decision and that the loss of supplies from Gazprom would not have significant consequences for households and businesses.
Recall that Denmark also said that it expects to cut off Russian gas supplies due to the refusal to comply with Russia's requirement to pay in rubles.
"Gazprom has already stopped supplying gas to three EU members - Poland, Bulgaria and Finland - on such grounds.
