Zelensky warned of a catastrophic rise in prices: what is it about?

Because of Russia's war against Ukraine, the world faces a catastrophic rise in food prices. The approaching catastrophe will become evident as early as July.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in an address to politicians and the people of Indonesia.

According to him, to date, Russia has blocked access to ports in the Black Sea and occupied the Ukrainian coast of the Azov Sea, which led to the closure of traditional trade routes.

"Currently 22 million tons of grains are in storage, we can't send them to the world market, where they are needed. It is already felt that the price of grain and subsequently other foodstuffs can increase catastrophically. And the governments of food-exporting countries will have to make decisions to close exports of some or other agricultural products from their countries in order to keep domestic prices from explosive growth", Zelensky said.

He stressed that in July, when many countries run out of stocks of last year's crop, it will become obvious that a catastrophe is really coming.

"Look at the prices right now in the stores, their increase is a harbinger of things that are bound to hit people if nothing changes. It is a harbinger of poverty for the poor and impoverishment for the middle class. Just imagine what political chaos this could end up being in some regions. And this is just one aspect of how the war unleashed by Russia will affect the whole world. And such aspects, in addition to the threat of famine, chaos, really a lot, "- added Zelensky.

We shall remind you that earlier in Britain said that rising food prices could be more terrible than the energy crisis.
