The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that Russian President Vladimir Putin must pay for the war he waged against Ukraine. Therefore, the EU will impose a sixth package of sanctions, including a ban on Russian oil. She said this during a high-level international donor conference on Ukraine in Warsaw.
"From day one, the EU supported Ukraine. Together we mobilized our economic strength against Russia. We have imposed five waves of sanctions that are already having a devastating effect on the Russian economy. And we proposed a sixth package of sanctions yesterday, including a ban on Russian oil. These sanctions are severely draining the Russian economy. Putin started this war and must pay for it," said von der Leyen.
