U.S. President Joseph Biden has decided to ask for approval of a package of laws that would help the administration use confiscated assets of individuals linked to Russia to help Ukraine, the White House said.

The announcement said the president "will send proposals for a comprehensive package of laws that would further enable U.S. authorities to hold Russian authorities and Russian oligarchs accountable" for the situation in Ukraine.

Biden's proposals include using the confiscated assets of sanctioned individuals to fund aid to Ukraine. The White House explained that the State Department, Justice Department and Treasury Department would jointly decide on the use of assets frozen "in connection with corruption, violations of sanctions and export control measures, as well as in connection with a number of other violations.

In addition, according to the White House, Biden's proposal would allow the U.S. to create "a more flexible administrative process involving the Treasury and Justice Department to confiscate property in the United States of America of sanctioned Russian oligarchy.
