In the territories of Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Zhytomyr and some districts of Mykolaiv region liberated from occupation, more than a thousand bodies of dead and tortured locals have already been identified, and this figure is not final, First Deputy Head of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine Sergey Panteleev said during a briefing.
"As of today, the National Police in the territories of Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Zhytomyr and certain districts of the Mykolaiv region liberated from occupation have engaged more than 300 investigative and operational groups, which collect, record and document crimes committed by Russian military personnel. Also, police investigators have identified more than one thousand bodies of dead and tortured residents of the above regions, and this information, unfortunately, is not final," Panteleev noted.
According to him, the bodies are being identified and autopsies are being conducted. After that, they will be given to relatives for burial.
He also said that since the active phase of the invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine, from February 24 to April 18, police investigators have already opened 15,567 criminal proceedings for crimes committed under martial law.
Among them are 7,419 cases of crimes committed on the territory of Ukraine by the military forces of the Russian Federation, Belarus and their accomplices.
It is also known that law enforcers have completed investigative actions in Irpin, Kyiv Region, to document Russian war crimes and hand over for examination the bodies of 269 dead local residents.
