In Ukraine, 143 children have been killed since the start of the war with Russia. In addition, 216 more children were injured.

This is reported by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova and the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

"As of 8 o'clock on March 28, 2022, according to the Unified register of pre-trial investigations, as well as other sources that need to be confirmed, 143 children have died and 216 children have been injured since the invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine," the report said.

"Children suffered the most in Kyiv region - 67, Kharkiv region - 49, Donetsk region - 53, Chernihiv region - 38, Mykolaiv region - 30, Luhansk region - 27, Zaporizhzhia region - 21, Kherson region - 24, the capital - 16, Zhytomyr region - 15 and Sumy region - 14.

On March 27, 2022, Russian Armed Forces personnel shelled villages in the Izyum district of the Kharkiv region. Three children were killed and one was wounded as a result of the shelling.

On March 27, 2022, two children were wounded as a result of the occupants' shelling of Luhansk region.

Also on March 27, 2022, a child was wounded as a result of enemy shelling of a village in Fastivsky district of Kyiv region.

In Kherson region, a 15-year-old boy died in hospital from wounds sustained as a result of artillery shelling.

On March 27, 2022, a Russian military vehicle hit a family walking on the road in Sumy region, resulting in injuries to a 15-year-old boy and the death of his father in hospital.

Due to bombing and shelling, 733 educational institutions were damaged. Seventy-four of them were completely destroyed. The situation is worst in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kyiv, Kherson, Chernihiv regions and the city of Kyiv," the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine stressed.

However, it is still impossible to determine the exact number of child casualties due to the active hostilities that are taking place in some Ukrainian cities.
