The court banned Facebook and Instagram in Russia

On March 21, the Tverskoi court in Moscow banned the activities of the social networks Meta Facebook and Instagram on the territory of the Russian Federation for "carrying out extremist activities.

"The civil claim of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office to satisfy in full," Russian media quoted the judge who issued the ruling as saying.

The Prosecutor General's Office claims that the American company Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, allegedly lifted a ban on social networks for users in several countries to post information "containing calls for violence against Russian citizens, including military personnel."

At the same time, Meta's WhatsApp and Facebook messenger are not subject to the blocking, as they do not have "the ability to send dubious messages to an unlimited number of people".
