The war in Ukraine, which was initiated by the Russian Federation, can only end when the presidents of the two countries sit down at the negotiating table. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in an interview with the German publication BILD.
"We have not had direct contact between the presidents yet. Only after direct negotiations between the two presidents, we will be able to end this war," said the head of state.
Zelensky noted that his goal in any negotiations is to end the war with Russia, also he is ready to make certain steps.
In particular, the president noted that it is possible to make compromises, but they must not be a betrayal for the country. Also, the other side must be willing to compromise. This is the only way out of this situation.
Zelensky has repeatedly called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to sit down at the negotiating table to end the war.
However, Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian head of state, believes that it is too early to talk about the possibility of a meeting between Putin and Zelensky.
