Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called Washington's statement that Moscow is allegedly preparing fake videos of an attack by Ukrainian servicemen in Donbas to use it as an excuse to invade Ukraine nonsense, TASS reported.

"It is not for me to guess why our Western colleagues might be surprised in today's circumstances. They are surprised for cause and for no reason, mostly for no reason, or for reasons that they themselves make up. I read, watched on the Internet some statements by the State Department that Russia is preparing fake videos of an alleged attack by Ukrainian servicemen in Donbas. The delusional nature of such fabrications, and there are more of them every day, is obvious to any little experienced political scientist," he said in an interview.

Earlier on Thursday, The New York Times, citing unnamed U.S. administration officials, reported that Russia was allegedly preparing a fabricated video of Ukrainian forces attacking civilians on Russian territory or in the unrecognized republics of Donbas to create a pretext for an invasion of Ukraine. The Washington Post also published a similar story.
