Britain prepares for Britain's first-ever platinum jubilee for the Queen

Buckingham Palace unveiled a full program to celebrate the platinum anniversary of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II.

Street parties, a concert with some of the "world's biggest pop stars" and a chance to see close to the queen's home are all part of the plan to celebrate her 70th birthday on the throne.

It will culminate in a four-day holiday weekend in the U.K. from June 2 to 5.

The first event begins Monday with a contest to invent a new pudding to honor the queen's reign.

On Feb. 6, the queen will become the first British monarch to celebrate a platinum anniversary. There will be a series of celebrations throughout the year.

As with the Queen's golden and diamond jubilee, the first week of June has been chosen for the holiday weekend. There is no template for celebrating the 70th anniversary of the British monarch's reign because there hasn't been one before.

It is not yet clear what events the queen herself will attend. The medical team has advised her to rest for a few weeks after her recent hospital stay.

Most of the jubilee duties will likely fall to the rest of the family, including the heir to the throne, the Prince of Wales, and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall.

This anniversary will be the first for the queen without her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away last April.
