"President Joe Biden spoke with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed today, during which they discussed the ongoing conflict in Ethiopia and ways to achieve peace and reconciliation," the statement said.
The leaders also talked about the need to improve access to humanitarian aid in the African country. The U.S. president expressed concern that the ongoing fighting, including recent airstrikes on a refugee camp, continues to cause civilian casualties. The U.S. leader reaffirmed U.S. readiness to work with the African Union and partners in the region to peacefully resolve the conflict in Ethiopia.
The politicians emphasized the importance of the U.S.-Ethiopia relationship, the prospects for greater cooperation on a range of issues, and the importance of real progress in resolving the conflict.
