Kazakhstan's capital introduces a state of emergency

The city of Nur-Sultan (capital of Kazakhstan) has declared a state of emergency. It will be in force from January 5 to 19. 

Thus, Kazakh President Kasim-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree on the introduction of the state of emergency in the capital from 16:00 on January 5, which will be in force until January 19.

In addition, a curfew will be in force in the city from 23:00 to 7:00.

"Create a commandant's office of the city of Nur-Sultan for the period of the state of emergency and give it the powers provided by the law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On the state of emergency," the text of the document reads.

According to the document, the authorities instructed to introduce for the duration of the state of emergency such measures and temporary restrictions in the capital:

1) strengthen the protection of public order, the protection of especially important state and strategic facilities, as well as facilities that provide vital activities of the population and the functioning of transport;

2) establish restrictions on freedom of movement, including vehicles, in the city of Nur-Sultan;

3) ensure the verification of identity documents of individuals, personal inspection, inspection of their belongings, vehicles;

4) restrict the entry into the city of Nur-Sultan, as well as exit from it;

5) prohibit the organization and conduct of peaceful assembly, entertainment, sports and other public events;

6) prohibit strikes and other ways of stopping or terminating the activities of legal entities;

7) prohibit the sale of weapons, ammunition, explosives, special means, poisonous substances, establish a special regime of circulation of drugs, narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, precursors, ethyl alcohol, alcoholic products;

8) ensure temporary seizure of weapons and ammunition, toxic substances from individuals, temporary seizure of explosives and radioactive substances from legal entities, together with weapons, ammunition and toxic substances, as well as combat and military training equipment.

Note that this is already the fourth region of Kazakhstan, where a state of emergency has been introduced.
