The Ukrainian Ministry of Health may allow COVID vaccination for children over 5 years old in the first months of 2022. The issue will be considered during January.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing an interview with Chief Sanitary Doctor Igor Kuzin.

"Vaccination from 5 to 11 years old is being vividly discussed all over the world, many countries already recommend it. We brought this issue to the meeting of the NTGEEI, the first time we received an answer that there was not enough evidence base. Now there is a certain amount of scientific research data on clinical effectiveness, so we will most likely consider it in January 2022," he said.

According to Kuzin, such a recommendation will probably be adopted, but it will not be a mandatory norm.

"The COVID vaccination for children 5 years of age and older will only be given if the parents wish and agree to it. In the case where a child from 5 to 12 years old had some concomitant conditions or severe diseases, then in this case the vaccination is indicated and will be appropriate," he added.

Recall, earlier the head of the National Technical Group of Experts on Immunoprophylaxis Fedor Lapii said that vaccination against coronavirus in children over 5 years will begin in 2022.

According to him, this requires a special vaccine.
