If the Russian Federation launches a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the German government must immediately curtail the Nord Stream-2 project.
Manfred Weber, chairman of the European People's Party (EVP) faction in the European Parliament, said this in an interview with the German weekly newspaper Bild am Sonntag, Deutsche Welle reported.
"If Putin pulls his weapon, the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is finished. Putting it into operation would then be ruled out. The future German government must clearly indicate this price," said the MEP.
According to Weber, the current situation is a test "for NATO and the entire Western community."
"It is important for NATO to make it clear that Russia will pay a high price if it undertakes something against Ukraine," the politician said.
Earlier, German ambassador to Ukraine Anka Feldhusen said that Russia's Nord Stream 2 pipeline will definitely not work for another six months, so Germany looks positively on additional gas transit through Ukraine.
Before that, the German Federal Network Agency temporarily stopped the process of certification of Nord Stream 2AG as the operator of the Russian gas pipeline "Nord Stream-2".
