Verkhovna Rada extended the law on the special status of Donbas

The Ukrainian parliament has extended the law on the so-called "special status" for certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions for another year.

The relevant decision was supported by 317 MPs. They voted to replace the number "2021" with the number "2022" in Article 1 of the relevant law "On the special order of local self-government in certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions".

As the initiators noted in an explanatory note, such a change would create additional temporary opportunities for the implementation of legislative conditions aimed at a peaceful settlement in certain areas of the ORDLO on the basis of the principles and norms of international law and the UN Charter.
