First Vice-Speaker of Parliament Appointed

 MP Alexander Kornienko, who heads the party "Servant of the People", was elected as the first deputy speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, informs UNN.

 

During the will of the candidate Kornienko supported 256 parliamentarians. In addition, Sofia Fedina, a representative of the parliamentary faction "European solidarity" also claimed the post.

 

During the presentation speech, Kornienko stressed that there is a need to reform the Verkhovna Rada.

 

 «If we build a smart state for us and our children, then we need a smart parliament as well. (...) Procedure is important, democracy is procedure. But who says that we must steadfastly follow the procedures that were created in the era of the old politics, which were created in order to conserve its main risks: corruption and lies. We have the right to change the procedure for the sake of a more effective parliament,»  Kornienko said.

 

He sees the need for many changes, which must concern the Rules of Procedure, internal parliamentary processes, the system of will in the Parliament, and the work of the Rada apparatus. He also noted the necessity of adopting the law on the parliamentary service and parliamentary assistants, further digitalization of the VR, and modernization of the parliamentary media.

 

In her speech Sofia Fedina drew the attention of parliamentarians to the neglect of the Regulations and procedures, as well as the fight against the opposition.
