U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Ukraine’s potential membership in NATO is not currently on the agenda, with Washington’s immediate focus on efforts to bring the war to an end.
“There is no simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer to that question, other than to say that Ukraine’s membership in NATO is not currently on the agenda. As you know, that would require consensus and the unanimous agreement of all member states,” Rubio said.
“At this point, when it comes to Ukraine, our focus is primarily on bringing this conflict to an end - if that is possible.
“It is tragic that the human toll has been so high, but we have made it clear that if there is anything we can do to help bring this war to an end, we want to do so constructively,” Rubio added.
