Zelenskyy says Ukraine developing its own ‘Starlink-like’ satellite system

Ukraine has begun developing its own satellite system, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said, confirming that work on the project is already under way.

Zelenskyy said the first steps had been taken but declined to disclose further details about the Ukrainian-built system at this stage.

Against that backdrop, the Ukrainian president renewed his call on Kyiv’s allies to allow Ukraine to use Starlink satellite connectivity in operations targeting Russia.

“Why would that be fair? Because we know that some countries will provide Russia with relevant technologies by the end of this year or the beginning of next year,” Zelenskyy said.

He added that Ukraine remained grateful to its partners for sharing critical technologies, describing such support as vital for the country as Russia continues to receive backing from China.

Ukraine has relied heavily on satellite communications throughout the war, particularly to maintain connectivity for military units and critical infrastructure.
