The scandal broke out in Hungary after the release of an audio recording with the voice of former Justice Minister Judit Varga, in which she allegedly confirms the conspiracy of Hungarian government officials to cover up corruption. This was stated by the AP publication.


The recording was made public by a former Hungarian official and Varga's ex-husband, who is now an oppositionist and a bright anti-Orbanist, Peter Magyar.


The recording, published by Magyar on social media, contains a conversation in which Varga describes how other government officials interfered in court proceedings to destroy evidence of corruption cases.


An excerpt from the recording was handed over to the prosecutor's office in Budapest to be used as evidence in a criminal investigation. In response, Varga accused Magyar of domestic violence and claimed that she had made statements under pressure.


The disputes between Varga and Magyar has caused a significant resonance in Hungarian society, especially in the context of corruption investigations, which have become the subject of heated debate in recent years.
