Iran has developed a new Shahed-107 attack drone for Russia - Sky News

Iran has developed a new "explosive and reconnaissance" Shahed-107 attack drone for Russia, Sky News reports.

A Sky News security source claims that Iran has developed a new Shahed-107 attack drone for Russia's war against Ukraine. It also seems to be close to providing Russia with surface-to-surface missiles.

The Shahed-107 is described as an "explosive and reconnaissance" drone, possibly equipped with technology to find targets such as British and American multiple launch rocket systems used by Ukrainian forces.

The source also said that "several units" of the specially designed drone may have been offered to Russia in a deal estimated to be worth more than $2 million.

According to the sources, this reflects "the significant work on force projection that Iran is doing to support Russia's interests in Ukraine."

As noted, the Shahed-107 belongs to the Shahed-101 family of unmanned aerial vehicles with V-shaped plumage. The drone, which is about 2.5 meters long and has a wingspan of three meters, can be launched from a vehicle and is estimated to have a range of up to 1,500 km.

It is expected to be equipped with a video transmitter. Such reconnaissance capabilities mean that the drone could be used to identify targets on the front line for other UAVs or weapons systems to target.

The publication's security source claims that Iranian security forces conducted tests with the Russians at an air base in central Iran, which included Shahed-107 and Shahed-136 drones. In addition, it is emphasized that the partnership between Iran and Russia will become even more significant after the Russian Federation supplies Iranian surface-to-surface ballistic missiles.
