Putin announces the number of Russian troops in Ukraine: 617 thousand on the contact line

Russian President Vladimir Putin has revealed the number of Russian troops in Ukraine. He stated that it is about 617,000 troops "who are along the contact line." He said this live on air at his first final press conference in two years.

"The line of contact in Ukraine is 2,000 kilometers long, and there are 617,000 Russian troops at the front," Putin said.

Putin also said that there are no plans for a new mobilization in Russia.

According to him, there are currently enough volunteers who serve under contract. Since the beginning of the year, 486 thousand men have been recruited in this way.

"Why do we need mobilization? There is no need for it today," Putin said.
