The Russian armed forces are using naval weapons in their land war against Ukraine, including the so-called "Frankenstein machines". This was reported by Bild.
According to the publication, photos of unusual weapons used by Russia during the conflict in Ukraine have appeared online. The images show that the MT-LB armored personnel carrier is equipped with an RBU-6000 naval bomber designed to attack submarines using depth charges.
These weapons systems were developed in the USSR in the 1960s and are usually installed on board warships. However, due to the lack of weapons and ammunition, Russian troops decided to use naval weapons on land.
Other photographs show the "Ogon" shipboard system mounted on the MT-LB and the 2M-3 universal shipboard weapon. These "modernizations," as Bild calls them, are likely to be characterized by low accuracy, a more limited range, and the need for frequent reloading.
It is likely that Russia could have been pushed to such "modernizations" by a shortage of weapons and ammunition.
