The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, said that he was generally satisfied with the results of the NATO summit in Vilnius for Ukraine and believes that now the invitation for Ukraine is closer than it seems.
He said this in an interview with ICTV.
When asked whether he was satisfied with the results of the summit, Kuleba answered "generally yes".
"I am not satisfied with only one point - that in the text of the communiqué of the summit there are no clear words that Ukraine is either invited to membership, or will be conditionally invited tomorrow. But it was a summit at which it is very important not only that in the text of official decisions and official statements, but also what was behind the scenes. And there was a fundamental difference not only with the Bucharest summit of 2008, with which everyone compares "Vilnius", but even with the summit in Madrid.
We have overcome the psychological barrier, and I see that Ukraine is really seen as a member of NATO. The fact that they did not make a "quantum leap" is bad. But, on the other hand, I see that this quantum leap is inevitable and will happen much sooner than we think. Because inside, behind closed doors, everyone is absolutely calmly saying: don't worry, the issue is resolved, you will be a member of NATO," Kuleba said.
We will remind you that the decision of the Vilnius Summit contains quite positive wording regarding Ukraine. In particular, the NATO summit agreed to remove the requirement for the Membership Action Plan on Ukraine's path to the Alliance. At the same time, the allies made it clear that they would invite Ukraine to join NATO "when the conditions are met."
The summit decision does not include a list of conditions to be fulfilled by Ukraine. But, according to "European Truth", among them there will also be political ones, that is, related to reforms.
