The Government of Georgia introduces a temporary duty on the import of flour

The Government of Georgia will introduce a temporary duty on the import of flour - the draft resolution is being prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture.

According to Minister Otar Shamuhiy, the duty is planned to be introduced for 5 months from June 10 to support local producers and give them the opportunity to sell their crops.

"Our main task is to maintain the prices of bread and at the same time establish the sale of the new crop," said Shamugia.

Earlier, farmers held a series of protests as demand for local wheat fell to zero as the country switched almost entirely to Russian flour.
