The mass media consider Saudi Arabia's decision a good result of President Zelensky's visit to the country.
Saudi Arabia declared a neutral position in the war launched by Russia against Ukraine. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, on May 19, Al Arabiya channel reports.
Saudi Arabia has chosen "active neutrality", the minister said after the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi to Jeddah and his address to the leaders of the League of Arab States.
The Guardian writes that this statement can be considered a "positive result" for Zelensky, against the background of the fact that relations between Russia and Saudi Arabia "seemed to have reached their peak" last year.
On May 19, Zelenskyі arrived in Saudi Arabia and held a meeting with Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Muhammad bin Salman and Prime Minister of Iraq Muhammad Shia Sabbar Al-Sudani.
Speaking at the summit of the League of Arab States, Zelenskyі called on the Arab countries for direct dialogue and offered them to join the points of the Ukrainian peace formula.
On April 10, Zelenskyі had a telephone conversation with As-Sudani, stressing that Ukraine is "ready for a new page of bilateral cooperation."
Saudi Arabia took an active part in the return of 10 foreign prisoners of war from Russian captivity.
