The European Union will increase the volume of projectile production to one million units per year. Ammunition will be sent to Ukraine and EU members.
This was stated by the European Commissioner for Internal Market and Defense Industry, Thierry Breton, Euractiv reports.
According to Breton, the European Commission's plan is "unprecedented" and aimed at increasing European defense capabilities.
He noted that after the decision of the European Commission to allocate an additional 500 million euros for the production of projectiles, the EU defense industry should switch to the "military economy" mode.
"Today, European industry is not large enough to meet the security needs of Ukraine and our member countries. But it has the potential to do so," Breton said.
At the same time, the European Commissioner emphasized that the priority task remains the supply of shells to Ukraine.
"To support Ukraine in the very short term, we must continue to supply it from our reserves. But we also need to re-prioritize current production and direct it to Ukraine as a priority," he stressed.
The publication notes that 13 countries will be engaged in the production of projectiles. In particular, Bulgaria, France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Romania, Italy, Sweden, Slovenia, Croatia and Greece. They were recently visited by the European Commissioner. Breton is also going to test facilities in Germany and Spain.
We will remind you that today the European Commission presented a plan to increase the production of projectiles. The EU has allocated 500 million euros to increproductione of ammunition production.
