The United States will continue to coordinate closely with South Korea on further support for Ukraine.
A representative of the US State Department told Reuters about this.
In an exclusive interview with the agency, South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol previously stated that under certain circumstances his country may go beyond humanitarian or financial aid to Ukraine, demonstrating for the first time a change in its position on providing arms to Ukraine.
"The Republic of Korea has been a faithful partner in protecting Ukraine's right to territorial sovereignty from Russian aggression since the first days of the full-scale invasion," said a representative of the US State Department in an email to the agency, responding to the South Korean president's comments.
"We will continue close coordination with our ally regarding additional support to Ukraine," the State Department representative added.
South Korea is a key US ally and a major producer of artillery ammunition. So far, Seoul has tried to avoid confrontation with Russia and followed a policy of not supplying Ukraine with weapons.
Yoon Seok Yeol made his announcement ahead of his official visit to the US next week.
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki previously called on US President Joe Biden to facilitate South Korea's transfer of ammunition to Ukraine.
